NetZero® is a climate venture specialising in long-term carbon removal from the atmosphere.
We turn agricultural residues into biochar, a very stable form of carbon. The process is as follows: plants capture carbon during photosynthesis; we extract and stabilise this carbon through a pyrolysis process; the resulting biochar is buried in the soil, safely storing the carbon out of the atmosphere for hundreds of years.
This allows us to generate high-quality carbon credits, which also include the many co-benefits provided with our model, such as increased crop yields through biochar use in soils, and production of renewable electricity from the excess energy of pyrolysis.
NetZero’s mission is to bring biochar at scale in the tropics - for climate and people, now.
To make sure we do not contribute to tropical deforestation, our policy is to avoid wood residues altogether as a feedstock.
While we could make our model more profitable, we choose not to do so to maximise social and environmental co-benefits.
We only sell our carbon credits to clients with very serious net-zero commitments.
