# NetZero > NetZero is a French industrial biochar company whose mission is to bring biochar at scale in the tropics -- for climate and people, now. By converting agricultural residues into biochar through pyrolysis, NetZero simultaneously performs high-permanence carbon dioxide removal (CDR), improves soil quality and crop yields for farmers, and co-generates renewable energy. The company operates industrial biochar production sites in Brazil, uses agricultural residues such as coffee husks as feedstock, is certified under leading CDR standards, and is a winner of the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition. NetZero was founded in January 2021 in France. It has five co-founders, including CEO Axel Reinaud. NetZero exclusively uses agricultural residues such as coffee husks, sugarcane bagasse, rice husks, and coconut shells as feedstock, and focuses on tropical regions. Biochar is applied to agricultural soils, where it durably stores carbon while acting as a nutrient- and water-retaining soil amendment. The pyrolysis process generates renewable syngas that is recovered to self-sustain the reactor and supply energy for other local uses. NetZero is a fully integrated biochar player, controlling the value chain from reactor design and facility engineering through production operations, agronomic deployment, and CDR credit certification and sales. Its NetZero One model lets industrial partners with large locally available biomass streams own and operate biochar production assets while NetZero provides the full ecosystem around the plant: turn-key facility design and delivery, proprietary pyrolysis technology, operating standards, training, technical support, agronomy support, MRV, certification, and CDR credit commercialisation. NetZero One is positioned as more than another biochar equipment offer: it is an integrated industrial model that brings together technology, engineering, operations, agronomy, MRV, certification, and carbon-credit commercialisation in a proven, ready-to-run package, significantly reducing the operational risk of first-time implementation. The model includes proven industrial technology with process-control and automation systems, support throughout the project's life, end-to-end CDR certification support that reduces risk, the credibility of NetZero's recognised industrial biochar and CDR brand strengthened by winning XPRIZE Carbon Removal, CDR commercialisation, and practical industrial biochar know-how from operating plants. NetZero One services support partners from project definition to commissioning, operations, maintenance, data systems, agronomy, MRV, certification readiness, and continuous improvement throughout the project's life. The model is aimed at large farms or plantations, including planted forests, cooperatives, integrated agro-processors, and agricultural traders and exporters that control at least 10kt of biomass per year and have the operational capacity to host an industrial project. CDR credits are certified under high-integrity standards including Puro Standard and Isometric, and are sold to corporate buyers with credible net-zero roadmaps. NetZero's model is designed so the high value of CDR credits helps keep agronomic biochar affordable for farmers. ## Core Pages - [Home](https://netzero.green/en/): NetZero's integrated industrial biochar model across technology, projects, certification, and products - [Biochar](https://netzero.green/en/biochar/): What biochar is, how it is produced through pyrolysis of agricultural residues, its agronomic properties, and its role in carbon removal - [Crop Productivity](https://netzero.green/en/biochar/crop-productivity/): Agronomic benefits of biochar in the tropics, including yield improvement, fertiliser reduction, water retention, and scientific evidence - [Land Restoration](https://netzero.green/en/biochar/land-restoration/): How biochar supports degraded soil restoration and long-term soil health - [Dos and Don'ts](https://netzero.green/en/biochar/dos-and-donts/): Practical guidance for correct biochar use - [CDR Credits](https://netzero.green/en/cdr/): NetZero's high-permanence CDR credit offering, certification standards, flexible contracts, and buyer integrity principles - [MRV Approach](https://netzero.green/en/cdr/mrv/): Measurement, reporting, verification, traceability, and data lineage for NetZero CDR credits - [NetZero One](https://netzero.green/en/netzero-one/): Turn-key industrial partnership model for companies that want to own a biochar plant while using NetZero's technology, operating support, MRV, certification, and carbon credit ecosystem - [Production Technology](https://netzero.green/en/netzero-one/technology/): NetZero's Gen2 pyrolysis technology, modular production system, and integrated hardware-software process control for stable biochar quality - [NetZero One Services](https://netzero.green/en/netzero-one/services/): Support throughout the project's life, including project definition, commissioning, operations, maintenance, data systems, agronomy, MRV, certification readiness, and continuous improvement - [CDR for NetZero One](https://netzero.green/en/netzero-one/cdr/): Partner-focused educational information about high-permanence CDR: what it is, the difference between biochar and forestry removals, demand drivers from corporate net-zero standards, and premium pricing logic ## Company Information - [Company](https://netzero.green/en/about/): NetZero's mission, model, awards, and partners - [Projects](https://netzero.green/en/about/projects/): NetZero's four commercial-scale biochar production sites in Brazil (Lajinha, Brejetuba, and Paraguaçu, all NetZero-owned, plus São João do Manhuaçu under the NetZero One industrial partnership model), all using coffee husk feedstock, plus an industrial-scale R&D site dedicated to new biomasses - [ESG](https://netzero.green/en/about/esg/): Environmental, social, and governance commitments, including policies and whistleblowing access - [Team](https://netzero.green/en/about/team/): Co-founders, leadership team, advisory board, and board members - [News](https://netzero.green/en/about/news/): Press releases and company updates - [Research](https://netzero.green/en/research/): Research partnerships and scientific work on biochar agronomy ## Resources - [Resources](https://netzero.green/en/resources/): Policy, scientific, and supplier resources - [Policies](https://netzero.green/en/resources/policies/): ESG, integrity, and operational policies - [Publications](https://netzero.green/en/resources/publications/): Scientific publications related to biochar and NetZero's work - [For Suppliers](https://netzero.green/en/resources/for-suppliers/): Information for suppliers and partners - [Other Resources](https://netzero.green/en/resources/other/): Additional resources, including videos about biochar and carbon removal ## Contact & Legal - [Contact](https://netzero.green/en/contact/): Get in touch with NetZero - [Legal Notice](https://netzero.green/en/legal/legal-notice/): Legal notice - [Privacy Notice](https://netzero.green/en/legal/privacy/): Privacy and data protection information - [Sub-processors](https://netzero.green/en/legal/subprocessors/): List of third-party sub-processors used to process personal data, with legal entity countries and data hosting regions ## External Context - [XPRIZE Carbon Removal](https://www.xprize.org/prizes/carbonremoval): Context on the competition of which NetZero is a winner - [Puro Standard](https://puro.earth/): One of the certification standards under which NetZero's carbon removal projects are certified - [Isometric](https://isometric.com/): Independent carbon removal verification platform used for NetZero projects
